Developing up-to-day online and blended learning solutions - a student response system in the video communication platform, multimedia courseswares with VR/AR technology and gamified elements, to enhance student’s interest, engagement, and performance

Online Course
How to digest a research paper
This online course is designed to introduce ways to digest an academic paper to the upper divisions of undergraduate students and potentially master’s program students in the future. The online game is divided into eight parts, which correspond to the eight sections of an academic paper: abstract, introduction, background, research methodology, results, discussion, conclusion, and references. These eight sections are visualized as eight destinations on an animal, each represented by an animal.
Sea Voyage is the form of Mini games. The instructor is the captain of an ark. He is to guide the students through the journey. The mission of the game is to collect all the animals on the ark by completing the quiz in each section. The game starts with a short video that introduces what an academic paper is and the aims and objectives of the game. Players will be prompted to read the relevant section of the paper before starting the quiz in each section.
The animals will give instant feedback to the players upon completion of each question in the quiz. The game aims to use a fun way to introduce how to read an academic paper to students who are unfamiliar with academic papers and oftentimes just go to the abstract.

VR Project
Pre-Practicum Workshop
The main objective of this VR project is to enhance student’s communication skills, empathic skills, and problem-solving skills in a VR simulation environment. Students can understand better how to interact with their clients, especially in challenging situations. They can repeat practicing the skills through VR without time limitations. Those scenarios cover various aspects of social work such as interviewing clients, assessing their needs and problem solving. These scenarios challenge students and help them develop skills in a safe and controlled environment. It is expected that students will be more confident before embarking on practicum and performing better in their practicum.

Game
Academic Honesty Training
A treasure hunt game with 12 caves in an ancient Chinese tomb with terra cottas. Questions on academic honesty are set in different types, such as multiple choice and matching. The game aims to give students a solid foundation on academic honesty before they acquire skills such as summary, paraphrasing and citation in other courses.

Programming for Everyone
This animation video is made for a beginners' course on the fundamental principles of programming via the use of Python programming language.
A set of attributes (data) and methods (functions) that are ubiquitous to all instances of that class is outlined. As such, an animation video, as a visual aid, will be helpful in elucidating abtract concepts in the programming language and process.
Delivered together with the video, there are coding challenges that are interactive and can be undertaken individually or in teams. The challenges may gradually increase in complexity as the course progresses, and students who complete all the challenges may be acknowledged with rewards.

Digital literacy and numeracy for University Students
This online course is designed to equip students with the fundamental numeracy and digital skills necessary to be productive citizens in the twenty-first-century workforce. This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental analytical tools for evaluating and resolving problems in everyday life. Additionally, it seeks to introduce students to digital tools and applications that will facilitate more effective collaboration and information sharing and provide a foundation for future learning in these technologies and approaches. Twelve online lectures have been produced for this online course.

Online Course
Research Ethics
This online course is designed to familiarize undergraduates and postgraduates with the fundamental principles of research ethics. Topics will cover the basic ethical principles of a large variety of research activities, including animal research, public data analysis, and studies that involve human subjects. Six teaching videos were produced to introduce the basic concepts and principles of Research Ethics. Each video covers one ethical principle and will all be uploaded to the learning management system for students to learn.

Game
Human Neuropsychology
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a specific technology for recording activity of the brain in neuropsychology. A class visit and hands-on experience to an EGG Lab is not always practical due to space and time limitations. Therefore, a 3D simulation game was designed to allow the students to learn about the operation of an Electroencephalography (EEG) Lab.

Game
Theories and system in counselling psychology
In counselling psychology training, perspective-taking is a crucial skill. To enhance this skill, a virtual reality (VR) experience has been developed that simulates different roles in a bullying scenario: the bully, the victim, and the bystander. This VR experience allows for a lively, simultaneous, and controllable learning activity that engages students in an experiential learning process.
During the VR immersive experience, the students have to make decisions as different stakeholders in a bullying scenario. Although there are no winning or losing in the program, but the decisions made by the student will contribute to their experience gained from the program.
